Thankful Thursday 7

As promised on Monday - Owen's art. This is a very small sample size of the things my second child creates. When asked during the holidays for a gift idea for Owen, I literally said paper, glue, tape, and some sort of medium for creating. Some days, iit's all he needs.

T-Rex: Artist's comments - "He's nice. If you need help getting a star on the Christmas tree, he will do it."

Farmer: Artist's comments - "If you need him for a scarecrow, he will do it. He's a scarecrow. He picks apples."

Girl T-Rex: Artist's comments - "She has lots of hair. She really loves apples. Her favorite color is red. She has spikey hands."

Sign: Artist's comments - "That's for Evelyn."

Fireworks: Artist's comments - "Those are for 4th of July. If you light them, they shoot bullets and come out the little spikes."

Evelyn: Artist's comments - "She has a spotted shirt. She has a lot of hair. She's standing outside."

Thankful Thursday 6

1. Today I am thankful for time. While the unfathomable "time only speeds up as you get older" has truly hit home to me, it also provides something wonderful. A healing effect. I think recovery and healing, forgiveness and rejuvenation make themselves known to different people in different ways. For me, I have come to realize it is time more than any other possibility. Time brings me perspective, a deep breath (sometimes a years' long deep breath), and sensible words.

2. I am thankful the Royals are on tv almost every night of summer, that The Bachelorette starts up next week, and So You Think You Can Dance is back in business.

3. I am thankful my little brother has found a partner for life who is a beautiful person. She's sensible yet silly, intellectual yet fun-loving. I am excited to share in their love day coming up in July.

Thankful Thursday 5

I am thankful for co-workers who want to work as a team to accomplish the best results for the client. We all play different parts, but the results affect us all the same. We stay employed.

I am thankful for controversy, as difficult as it is for me to swallow some days. Being on the receiving end of negativity is hard for me to handle because I always believe there is a simpler, more productive way to handle business. However, without this controversy I wouldn't find new and improved ways to respond effectively.

I am thankful for my Owen and all his craziness. He is five today.

Thankful Thursday 4

1. I am thankful for the option to dye my hair should....you know...I need to. At least I have options.

2. I am thankful my main form of entertainment, sports, has had its basketball season extended each and every year by our uber-talented Kansas Jayhawks. We probably take for granted that we'll always watch through late March, but it butts up nicely against the baseball season when it does.

3. I am thankful we have enough breakfast choices that my Owen cries most mornings because he "can't decide". I hope I continue to teach him how lucky he is to have such "difficult" problems.

Thankful Thursday 3

Patience
I am thankful my patience has grown over the last several years. While it waffles and teeters back into unacceptable levels, maturation must be a real thing because I think I've experienced a smidgen of it.

Sports
I have always appreciated sports and been able to draw correlations to their significant lessons in life. The busier I've gotten at work, the more I appreciate the sheer relaxing nature of watching competition and rooting as a fan. Especially when I learn that colleagues have become "too busy" to have hobbies.

Distractions
At times, it can be discouraging. They can impede progress. Being distracted when you don't want to be can create frustration. But when you embrace the distraction, especially when it's your 8 year old boy who doesn't always engage you to chat JUST TO chat? It can be the best thing in the whole wide world.

Thankful Thursday 2

I am thankful for my job.

I am thankful for people who listen.

I am thankful for yogurt when my belly doesn't feel the best.

Thankful Thursday 1

Cliche. I know. But it's time I made a few concessions and embraced cliche and trendy ideas even if they're overwhelmingly overused. Who knows, maybe one of you will show up in one of my Thursday alliteration posts?

For today, I'll catch you up on the little and big beasts that make me simultaneously thankful and exhausted every single day.
